Me To We at Adalaide Hoodless School

Meeting with Ontario Home and School Association

Olympians come to King George School

Adelaide Hoodless School, February 8, 2007

Second Home and School Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser at Ryerson United Church was a big success. I bought two tickets and took my youngest son (Beau). We ate a delicious meal and enjoyed the company of others in the Adelaide hoodless community. The Home and School managed to raise over $1000.00.

Memorial City School, February 28, 2007

I would like to tell you about something that has been going on a Memorial City School. They have been running the A.I.R. program this year. AIR is an acronym for Accountability, Innovation and Respect. Every month they have awards for students that have inculcated any one or more of these characteristics within their school context. This program has gone a long way to creating a positive climate in the school as well as embedding a mindset into the students and teachers that they can take with them wherever they go to help them achieve.

Parkview School

Cara Foods partnership inauguration: January 29, 2007 Parkview School Cara foods, one of the largest food hospitality companies in Canada operating restaurants like Harveys, Kelseys, Outback Steakhouse, Milestone’s and my personal favourite Cara Airport Services. Cara has partnered up with Parkview School to help train and certify students to work in professional kitchens, including Cara’s. This has opened the door for huge employment opportunities for many of our students that will graduate from Parkview School.

King George School

Forward by Jessica Trojahn

Interview by Amber Fielding

Mr Ruddle is a volunteer at King George School. He helps us with reading and writing. Mr. Ruddle is nice; when I see him I feel happy. I am glad he is a volunteer at King George School. This month Amber got to interview him. Read on to learn more….

Were you ever a teacher?

I was a teacher for over 30 years.

Let’s get personal Mr. Ruddle, do you have any pets?

No.

What is your favourite unhealthy food and what is your favourite healthy food?

My favourite unhealthy food is potato chips, and my favourite healthy food is vegetables in general, particularly green bean.

Do you have any children or grandchildren?

I have four children and one grand daughter, Amber, and one grandson who will be born soon.

What type of music do you like?

My favourite type of music is classical music; I do sing in a choir.

Do you like helping here at King George?

Amber, I’ve really enjoyed helping and teaching here because I think that’s maybe what I’ve been to gifted to do in my life. I love teaching, I come from a family of teachers. I very much enjoy helping.

What’s your favourite part of helping?

My favourite part of helping is seeing the results of the people that I’ve helped; those results can be happy smiles, or an understanding that they suddenly have, I love it when ‘the lights go on’.

Why did you choose to volunteer at King George?

That’s a good question. First of all, my church is in this area, and we’ve had a long relationship with King George students. Secondly, I became concerned about the importance of literacy in this school, and I wanted to see if I and other people from Bethany could help out in supporting literacy. I think that the kids at King George are just as bright as kids everywhere.

What do you look forward to when you visit King George?

I look forward because I think I can help, and as a retired high school teacher, this is a totally new experience for me and I really enjoy working with younger kids.

What classes do you help in?

I’m privileged to help a grade 2 class with Miss Jarvis and a grade 6 class with Miss Bremner.

Thank you so much for meeting with me!

It was my pleasure!

He Said, She Said

The following is an actual conversation that took place between Amber Fielding, School Prime Minister, and Kirk Westhaver, reporter for the K.G. Spec.

She – If I found a valuable item in the park, I would try to return it to the owner.

He – I wouldn’t.

She  - Why?

He – Because, it’s not your issue if someone lost their item, you just happened to be walking by and find it.

She – Okay, but what if that person misses that watch?  Who knows how valuable it is?  I would return it because that person might really, really, really, really miss it!

He – That’s their problem, they lost it.  You did not lose it.  So if you found $100 bill on the ground, you’re saying that you would return it?  If you tried to return it, how would the real person get it back?  Maybe someone would just lie and say it was theirs.

She – Well still, I would still be doing the right thing, even if no one else did.

He – Good point…..(long pause)…how would you be doing the right thing, if you gave it to the wrong owner?

She -  Lindsey helps Amber and says: First make the person describe the object in detail, then you know if it is really theirs.

He – Jessica W helps – what if someone stole the watch, and then lost it?  They would know what it looks like, but it still wouldn’t really be theirs.

She – Well still, even if someone else did something wrong, that doesn’t mean that I can’t still do the right thing.

He – Well, let’s just agree to disagree.

She - Okay

What do YOU think King George?  Is HE right? Is SHE right?  Let us know; send your opinions to Room 18 to get your 2 cents in.

Why I Like King George School

By Adam Trimble

I like King George school for many reasons.  I like King George because practically all of my friends go to this school.  I also like King George because it’s the best place to learn; the teachers do a good job. I like being in the Newspaper Club because we get to write articles and we have Newspaper Club on the day before the weekend, which is really nice because, I really like school but I also really like the weekend. I like the way the school looks when I come back from holidays, because the floors are all shiny.  That’s why King George school is the best school I’ve ever been to so far in my life.
